When Keeping It Real is Plain Rude

What in the world is wrong with us?

At what point did we decide that there is not enough time in the day to say, Thank you, Your Welcome, Please, Excuse Me, Good Morning, and Good Evening, but yet we have time to approach someone sideways or chat loudly on a cellphone in the middle of a supermarket?

There is absolutely no excuse for this behavior.

This cannot be blamed on single parenthood, economic status, or region of the country we are from; throwing up the middle finger to good manners is not acceptable.  In the past six months, I have experienced or witnessed the following:

1.     Really kid? Running around the grocery store, screaming your head off with crusted buggers dried on your face?  I guess mom didn’t want to deal with it because she is nowhere to be found.

2.     Never mind the bright red weave on the top of your head that I literally thought was a hat; please wait until you get home to have the most inappropriate conversation on your cell.  Thanks.

3.     Is there a reason why, you are standing right behind me at the cash register, are you interested in the type of feminine products I am purchasing?   Want to cover the tab?

4.     Dear Coworker, why do you never have anything to say to me unless you want something?  And let’s not forget you let the door slam in my face walking into the Ladies Room.

5.     Nothing brightens a person’s day than saying,  “Thank You” and not getting a response.

6.     Did he just shoulder check you and didn’t say, “Excuse me?”

7.     Keep holding a full-blown conversation in Spanish when other’s only speak English.  Continue and I will start speaking Ebonics in 5…4…3…2…

8.     You did not just walk out of the bathroom without visiting the sink…gross!

9.     Don’t even try it, I saw you key that two door Honda Accord……

10. When it is acceptable to walk into another person’s home and not speak?

At the end of the day (or sometimes multiple times through out the day) I have to remember to take a deep breath and hang on to my belief in people's basic decency.  Furthermore, I honestly make the extra effort to be kind.  Why?  Because I refuse to let anyone change who I am.

Stay Positive!
